How to remove moss from roofs
Apply Green Remover Concentrate diluted at 1:5 with clean water. Liberally spray the moss with the solution and allow it to dry. The moss will absorb the cleaning solution which will die away over the following days & weeks.
You will notice the moss turning brown and slowly dying away. You can carefully scrape the debris away, but most people simply let weathering action remove the dead moss over time.
Scraping the moss away or pressure washing can damage your roof tiles so letting Mother Nature do the work is normally preferable.
A simple low-pressure pump-up sprayer is a suitable method of application.
How to remove moss from tarmac
Apply the product diluted at 1:5 with clean water. Liberally spray the moss with the Green Remover Concentrate solution allowing it to naturally dry. The moss absorbs the cleaning solution killing it over the following days & weeks.
You will notice the moss turns brown and slowly dies. You will be able to carefully scrape the debris away. A stiff brush can be used to remove a lot of this debris or a light pressure wash.
A simple low-pressure pump-up sprayer is a suitable method of application. Or you may wish to apply the moss remover with a watering can.
General tips for moss removal from block pavers & patios
Green Remover Concentrate will remove the moss and any other organic contaminants such as algae. Green Remover Concentrate needs to penetrate the surface of the moss so it is drawn directly into the clumps of moss. Full saturation of moss means the solution will attack the roots of the moss as well.
You can leave the moss for a week or two then remove the dead moss if required. This may be possible with a stiff brush or lightly pressure washing the surface.
Using Green Remover Concentrate as a moss, algae & lichen inhibitor
Green Remover Concentrate can be applied as an inhibitor after deep cleaning with one of our other products. Spraying your surface once or twice per year will keep it moss & algae free. This type of treatment can also prevent black spot lichens from germinating and appearing on the treated surface.
You can use Green Remover Concentrate as a follow-on treatment after cleaning with one of our other cleaning products such as:-
- Black Spot Remover Plus – for the removal of black spot lichens.
- Patio Cleaner Plus – a deep cleaning product for patios.
- Render Cleaner Softwash Solution – removes organic staining from render or general masonry (can also be used on roofs)
- Block Paving Intensive Cleaner – a deep cleaning solution for clay & concrete block pavers (also removes lichens)
Application and coverage of Green Remover Concentrate
Dilute Green Remover Concentrate at a ratio of 1 part concentrate to 5 parts clean water. Do not use this product neat, it should always be diluted. A dilution rate of 1:5 produces approximately 30 litres of ready-to-use (RTU) solution from 5 litres of concentrate. This will treat a minimum of 100m2 – 120m2 of surface area.
Wet the surface with the cleaning solution not exceeding 5m2 per 1 litre of ready-to-use (RTU) solution. Allow the product to soak into the surface and leave to dry, do not rinse away.
If you have particularly dense or severe infestations of moss, you may wish to spray the moss twice. The dilution rate can also be altered to 1:3 to aid this process.
We always recommend testing any product in an inconspicuous area to determine suitability.
