What is Floorseal Exterior Wood Sealer?
Exterior Wood Sealer is a sub-surface penetrating sealer, the active content within the sealer is held in suspension within the liquid carrying agent. Once applied this product is absorbed into the wood to repel moisture. This breathable sealer does not form a skin/film/lacquer on the surface, it is non-film forming. Apply twice, the 2nd application should be made within approximately 3 hrs of the 1st
What does this product do?
The benefit of this sealer is the prevention of moisture penetration, thus helping the wood resist rotting, warping, degradation by UV light & organic growth.
Exterior Wood Sealer repels general damp/water penetration which helps to protect & preserve the wood. Apply to any porous wood which is likely to absorb liquids/rain water.
What does the term ‘non-film forming’ mean?
It means that once applied, the sealer is meshed into the pores of the treated surface. A non-film forming sealer repels moisture from within. There is no visible coating/lacquer, therefore Exterior Wood Sealer cannot be seen once applied i.e. there is no change in the appearance of the wood.
What kind of finish does Exterior Wood Sealer create?
Exterior Wood Sealer does not alter the appearance of your wood, for this reason we describe the product as natural/matt finish. Perfect for sealing wood when the user does not wish to see any change in appearance after treatment.
Preparing the wood before sealing
Never apply the sealer to damp wood, the surface should be totally dry. Ensure the surface is clean before application. Try to avoid applying the product when temperatures are above 10°C & below 24°C.There is some ‘wiggle room’ in the temperatures ranges noted. If you are sealing on a very warm day, then do so early in the morning when the surface is still quite cool.
If you have green algae on the surface treat with Floorseal Green Remover Concentrate at least a few days up to a week beforehand. You may be able to lightly pressure wash certain more resilient wooden surfaces prior to sealing.
Applying Exterior Wood Sealer
Spray onto the surface and allow to soak in. The greater the amount of sealer that is absorbed by the wood the more effectively it will be sealed. Try to encourage as much sealer into the wood as possible (by allowing it to saturate and work its way into the pores). The first liberal application of product is important as the wood will be at its most porous. The 2nd application is a ‘top up’ to fill any remaining pores that may accept a little more of the sealer.
You can work the sealer into the wood by use of a general wide paint brush. Any run-off from spraying can be encouraged into the surface by this method.
What is the coverage rate of Exterior Wood Sealer?
It depends on the porosity of the surface but as a guide 1 litre of product covers approximately 5m2 of surface area. When applying the 2nd application, you will notice you require less product than the 1st. 1 litre will now cover approximately 8-10m2 as the first application is becoming active.
The more product you can encourage into the surface of the wood, the better it will be sealed.
