What kind of stone floor is Floorseal Stone Floor Cleaner suitable for?

Floorseal Stone Floor Cleaner is suitable for natural stone floors such as general sandstone, Indian sandstone, York sandstone, honed limestone, honed travertine, slate, blue lias, Cotswold stone, natural stone flagstones & more. Generally suitable for any natural stone which is of a relatively matt natural appearance, as well as some semi polished stones.

Which kind of surface contaminants does stone floor cleaner remove?

Typically Stone Floor Cleaner removes oily residues, ingrained dirt & grime from natural stone tiles, slabs & flagstones. It is a deep cleaning solution used to revive floors which have become noticeably grimy. This may be due to the age of the floor, heavy use, pets or combination of many separate issues. This deep cleaning solution is often used when normal household cleaners have failed.

Stone Floor Cleaner is not for the removal of cement/concrete/grout/lime hazing. We have other products within our range for this purpose.

How to apply Floorseal Stone Floor Cleaner

This product should be diluted, typically at 1:5 with clean water (1 part product to 5 parts water). This dilution rate can be altered to suit the level of contamination encountered. Stone Floor Cleaner is rarely applied undiluted. Ultimately the user can alter the dilution rate to suit their needs.

Mop the solution onto the floor and agitate with the mop, allow approximately 15 minutes dwell time, then rinse away with clean water. Do not allow the solution to dry during the dwell time, add more product to prevent this from happening. You should always rinse the floor with clean water after use.

It is can be beneficial to clean the joints/grout/pointing with a medium stiff hand brush. Older floors often have deep recessed joints where a significant amount of dirt can congregate. You can also quickly clean along the edges of the floor & up to the base of kitchen units with a brush.

Stone Floor Cleaner is suitable for use in conjunction with slow speed rotary machines. The product should be mopped onto the floor & agitated with the machine (fitted with a brush & splash skirt). The resulting slurry should be wet vacuumed away (or mopped), followed by rinsing with clean water. If used in conjunction with a rotary machine the product can be used in a more diluted (weaker) version. The action of the machine will aid the cleaning process so less product is required.

This process, whether carried out by hand or machine, is largely the same for any type of stone floor.

Is Stone Floor Cleaner suitable for a sensitive floor like limestone?

Stone Floor Cleaner is NOT acidic so is safe to use on sensitive floors like limestone, travertine, marble, concrete, & terrazzo.

Stone Floor Cleaner is suitable for use on most sensitive floors. It will not adversely react with sensitive materials including lime mortar or modern cement-based grouts.

Are there any surfaces this product is NOT required?

Possibly highly polished surfaces such as a fully polished granite or marble & some very hard highly polished limestones. The product would not adversely react with the stone but highly polished floors do not normally require a deep cleaning agent.

When we refer to highly polished floors we mean fully diamond polished, so highly reflective. Examples of a highly polished surface would a marble, or limestone, which is so finely finished you can see reflections.

These kinds of surface are so finely finished you would only require one of our general everyday cleaners such as Floorseal Ph Neutral Floor Cleaner or Floorseal Hard Floor Cleaner & Degreaser.

The main issues with highly polished floors is that they become dull due to acid etching & surface wear. Not something that can be resolved by use of a cleaner. Day to day cleaning can usually be carried out with Ph Neutral Floor Cleaner.

It is worth checking for old surface sealers on slates – usually seen as a satin finish. They may require stripping before resealing. Or you may wish to clean with a different type of product such as Floorseal Hard Floor Cleaner & Degreaser then just reseal without stripping.

Top tips when using Stone Floor Cleaner

  • Test first to obtain a dilution rate which is suitable for your floor.
  • Always use dwell time, cleaners work at their optimal with dwell time.
  • You should rinse the floor with clean water after use.
  • When removing paint light abrasion (via a stiff brush) may be required (& dwell time).
  • Do not kneel in your work area i.e. in the solution.
  • A medium stiff hand brush is useful for the joints/grout.
  • The edges & corners of a room are usually less dirty so a mop may suffice.
  • For awkward areas (near kitchens) a medium stiff brush is useful.
  • Keep off paints & varnishes, wipe away with a damp cloth if encountered.
  • If sealing, allow the floor to dry for at least few days before sealing.
  • Always neutralise via rinsing – possibly using an additional cleaning agent.
