What type of sealer is Porcelain Tile Sealer for Patios?

Porcelain Tile Sealer for Patios is a micro top-coat sealer for fully-vitrified or semi-vitrified porcelains. The sealer protects & slightly deepens colour, it also creates a slight sheen. This type of sealer should always be applied after grouting.

What does this product do?

The purpose of this product is to resist water/damp/moisture from penetrating the micropores within the tile & grout lines of exterior porcelain. Thus inhibiting staining from general dirt & organic growth. Porcelain Tile Sealer for Patios resists moisture clouding &  degradation caused by UV light.

Can I use this type of porcelain tile sealer before grouting?

This type of tile sealer should not be used prior to grouting. The sealer is a topcoat which creates a microfilm & should only be applied after the tile has been fixed, grouted/jointed (and this material has fully dried/cured).

Does this type of porcelain patio sealer create a wet look?

Floorseal Porcelain Tile Sealer for Patios creates a subtle sheen and can slightly deepen surface colour. It is effective for slightly deepening the colour of darker tiles. Such as mid/dark grey, charcoal, anthracites, & black tiles. It will not alter the appearance of lighter coloured tiles, other than by creating a very low sheen.

This sealer is not intended to replicate the appearance of tiles which have been completely saturated with water. The sealer slightly deepen surface colours, so in this respect, it is a little similar to dampening with water when applied to a darker tile.

What kind of finish does Porcelain Tile Sealer for Patios produce?

A low sheen with a slight deepening of colour to darker tiles. The appearance of lighter coloured tiles will not change except for gaining a slight sheen.

What is the coverage rate of Porcelain Tile Sealer for Patios?

It depends on the type of porcelain the product is applied to. As a general estimate 1 litre of product will cover a minimum of 20m². We have found the sealer often achieves up to 40m² of surface area when applied with a micro fibre cloth. Application by micro fibre cloth is the quickest & easiest method of application which creates the optimal finish.

Preparing your porcelain tiles before sealing

Only apply to clean dry tiles, you may wish to clean your tiles with Floorseal Outdoor Porcelain Tile Cleaner to remove cement/mortar staining. Or Floorseal Porcelain Patio Spring Clean to remove dirt/grime & organic growth, such as algae & moulds which typically form on the tile (& grout) during the winter or wetter months of the year.

Ensure the tiles are clean & dry – you may need to pressure wash your tiles before sealing, please ensure both the tiles and grout are dry before sealing.

Apply the product when temperatures are above 10°C & below 20°C. There is some ‘wiggle room’ in the temperatures ranges noted. If you are sealing on a very warm day, then do so early in the morning when the surface of the tile is still cool.

Do not apply if rain is likely during application or in the following 24 hours after application.

Applying Porcelain Tile Sealer for Patios

Shake the container before use. Have a micro fibre cloth to hand – fold the cloth down into a half then a quarter so the cloth forms a flat square. Pour a small amount of sealer onto a tile and spread evenly. Do this whilst kneeling down – this method of application is the quickest/easiest and provides the best results. The sealer is a solid white coloured liquid which, when spread in a thin coat, becomes perfectly clear. Whilst a micro fibre flat mop can be used to apply the sealer, if you are not familiar with this product we strongly recommend using a micro fibre cloth.

This product is a micro coating, not a thick lacquer so spread out evenly tile by tile. The sealer will also seal the grout line. A slight track mark from the cloth will be briefly evident, but as the product quickly levels and dries this track mark disappears. The product will dry quickly and cures over 24 hours. Only apply the product in one coat.
